just one more little WIFI wiring question

I've just bought two Alfa gadgets the AWUS036H and the R36 802.11B, at the moment I have it plugged into the inverter but as the little transformer attached to the wires steps it back to 12vDC would I be right in thinking that I can just cut it off and wire it direct into the boats 12v circuit. Bearing in mind that the batteries can be showing a voltage of up to 14v when they are topped to brimming with wiggly amps.

I can't see much of a problem doing this but am just looking for confirmation that it will be ok and I won't end up with a useless router

The R36 powers the AWUSxxx via the USB. The R36 has a 'standard' socket for a power connector. To ensure a 'reasonably' stable 12v, I bought an adaptor from Amazon which plugs into a ciggie lighter socket. Similar to this one.. http://www.audio-electrical.co.uk/l...igarette-adapter-12v-3a-55-x-21-mm-1421-p.asp. I guess that so long as the polarity is correct, 5.5mm long and 2.1mm barrel seems the best fit.

I can't see anything to suggest that the item you link to is anything other than a straight 12v DC connection. If you are concerned about a 'stable' 12v supply for the R36 I suggest you need a proper 12v DC-DC converter. (Personally I would at least try it on a direct 12v DC feed from the battery).

The one I bought was definitely regulated. |However, the specific model is no longer available which is why the link was perhaps incorrect. I bought my Alfa kit from Crucial WiFi and they do a regulated adapter for the Alfa R36 http://www.crucialwifi.co.uk/Car_lighter_Adapter_to_FIT_Alfa_Network_R36/p740998_11836971.aspx

You might well find that a wifi unit is sensitive to noise on the boat's 12v DC circuit. I'd fit some sort of spike suppressor or noise cancellation device in-line.
