just found this on ebay STOLEN FAIRLINE

something odd about that narrative ? Brought all the way from Spain, to be sold in the UK ? A story behind it, no doubt.

I did ask the guy last time it was advertised, story was along the lines of left with broker to be sold and was never seen again.

Greater legal minds than mine will be able to confirm but I suspect that one is gone forever. By giving permission for the boat (or car) to be sold the matter becomes a civil dispute between you and the person you used to sell the item if funds are not forthcoming.

You can't get your boat or car back off the new owner.

Neither can you claim on your insurance. It wasn't stolen, you gave permission for it to be sold, the fact you didn't get any money is not the insurance company's fault.

If the item was physically stolen whilst in the possession of the broker or dealer that's another matter and someone's insurance may well pay out, whether yours covers you would be down to the policy but what usually happens it the broker / dealer sells the item and simply keeps the money.

We've seen it quite a lot with cars.

A slight thread drift and hopefully not abusing advertising rules but it might just save someone from losing a lot of money in the future. A bit I wrote on the subject some time ago, although it relates to cars it is equally applicable to boats, particularly smaller trailer based craft.

that sounds as if you have distilled the wisdom from a lot of horror stories about car sales ! Thanks for the link.

Absolutely not arguing because I just don't know, but I would have assumed (from the sound of it, wrongly) that it is fraud and therefore a criminal matter.

Happy to be educated though.

The odd thing is that the ad mentioned Division Yachts, who I've heard of but a long long time ago (unless this is a different Division Yachts?)
