In 2004 we chartered a Lagoon 410 in Caribbean, and having run the water v. low, we just had to go into a port, or do without showers that night.
As luck would have it there was another Sunsail Lagoon alongside a suitable pontoon, and we asked if we could raft up to them for 30 mins. Big smiles, no problem, throw lines, we'll tie you on. My clumsy manouvering not a problem, three muscular lads easily manhandled our boat sideways to close the gap and secure us.
They were all German, speaking perfect English. When we asked if there was only the three of them on such a large boat they said nope, the others were below.
Now, would we be alone in expecting 3 long legged blonde twenty something females to emerge? 2 minutes later three middle aged, bright red, pot bellied men came on deck, about as friendly, polite and helpful as could be. They helped fill the tank, chatted about the boats, offered advice, helped push us off and waved us away.
Nice though they were, I was mildly uncomfortable and glad to be on our way. Guess that says more about me than them!
Do you think engine maintenance is popular in that club? After all, it's important to remember to grease the stern gland to prevent one's shaft from chafing. Usually using those inaccessible arrangements where you have to bend over, use your hand to squeeze the plunger, and screw the ooze through a nipple down the tube and into the stuffing box.
I suppose that if diesel engine maintenance is a sticky subject /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif then the relative merits of tiller versus wheel steering is out of the question?:-
