Just back from Greece; but where is everybody?

Just returned from Athens after staying four days (more business than pleasure). I took a few pictures of a stunning area of the north east Attica coast, opposite the island of Evia, just south of Khalkis. Not a single boat out there; I know it is early season, but I was surprised to see no boats throughout the four days I was there.

Same here. I have just returned from a month in Corfu. The charter fleets skivvies were winding up, or should I say polishing away, and a few determined live-aboards were creeping out of hibernation in their floating caravans. But nary a sign of actual yachties. Solitude! - we were obliged to get plastered each evening on our own, in deserted cafés. The café owners fawned on us.

Four years ago we sailed around Evia, also visiting the Gulf of Volos and some of the Sporades. This was in August and we we're amazed at how few boats there were in the gulfs between Evia and the mainland. Sailing seemed undeveloped, possibly due to the very limited opening of the bridge at Khalkis (often only after midnight) but also quite long distances between suitable ports. However it is very well worth a visit, partly because it is so quiet.

The sea between the mainland and Evia island has plenty of wind and not too much waves, ideal for sailing. The scenery is absolutely stunning and having lunch at one of the many restaurants at Agioi Apostoli in front of the small harbour, it was so relaxing.
