While scrubbing the greenery off my boat today and after applying the green 17 licence to the shiny front screen, I couldn't help but notice a lack of river traffic....
Apart from countless rowboats and their powered escorts and a couple of scruffy looking liveaboards.
So my thought was, why am I paying the same in one case and many times more in the other for a fraction of the use, while the land based residents benefit from flood control and the view all year round?
Should liveaboards pay more?
Is it about time that rowing clubs paid a fair share for river use?
Should the councils who rely on the EA for flood protection cough up for the privilege, perhaps through an addition to the council tax?
