Everyone seems to have advised Steve 101 on how to equip his boat but I´ve
seen no advice on how he should prepare himself.
So I thought I might make a few suggestions :-
1/ Take a FASTRAK course to take him and his wife from beginner to Yachtmaster
This at least would teach him how to write out the mandatory passage plan
álso it would test out his/her compatability in the confines of a yacht.
2/ If there is a problem then take a RADAR course to show up a collision course.
3/ If the engine breaks down through lack of spares the a DIESEL ENGINEcourse is
recommended. Stop him being a " miserable bleeder".
4/ Pehaps his wife might thump him for getting diesel everywhere so think a
FIRST AID course is on the cards.
5/ If his injuries are bad then he will need a VHF DSC OPERATORS certificate
to make a "Pan Pan" call on his radio.
6/ However his wife might just thow him overboard so a SEA SURVIVAL course
should be taken.
7/ She could jump ship so if,in mid ocean, he wants to talk to someone then a
LONG RANGE RADIO CERT. to let him use the SSB is needed.
Naturally he will have to get his SHIPS RADIO LICENC with his MMSI number.
He could also get his ICC (International cert. of Competence) not InContinence
Chit.
All this would make him a more responsible yachtsman also get him off the
Forums for a few weeks!
Am I being cruel?.

I could do the Sea Check for him,,wait a mo, what size boat did he end up with, because if its over 45 feet we can't touch it as it falls into "commercial"

So could I, and as he intends to sail from Torquay (I wonder why?) he's mine! Only joking, you can if you want to come West. Moody 38 is his dreamboat so we're OK
