June 14th 2014 is the weekend of the Isle of Wight Festival so Cowes is to be avoided that weekend, unless you like that music malarky of course.

Now I hear that the entrance to the Beaulieu river is going to closed that day while they put up new overhead power lines. So my cunning plan to avoid Cowes by going to Beaulieu is scuppered.

Huh! Have to go Yarmouth then I suppose.

The price of berths shoots up though doesn't it? And aren't they all taken if you decide last minute to go there?

Not usually in Cowes. Island Harbour puts up their prices but East Cowes doesn't normally and I doubt whether the other Cowes ones do. I don't think that many come over by boat and those that do tend to use the Folly or East Cowes from what I remember. Worth a phonecall.

We've gone by boat for the last seven years and you are right that it's only Island Harbour that more than triple their prices. All the others have not adjusted prices for the festival.

It's a shame as Island Harbour is one of my favourites but I hate getting ripped off.

Not the greatest of line ups this year but I've paid for my tickets. I can also recommend the Rhythm Tree Festival which is also on the island. Much more chilled and relaxed than the big festival and much smaller.

I was in Cowes last year when the IOWF was on, it was a bit busier with more on Ferries, but the vast majority were going via East Cowes, but doubt if it affected East Cowes Marine. I have a dinner in West Cowes on 14th so will definitely be there.:encouragement:

We sold our tickets last year and haven't bothered this year, we waited to see what the line up was going to be after last year because it hasn't been a sell out for a good few years now. Looking at this years line up I think it is on it's last gasps - Giddings wants shot, he's been trying to sell it.

Even Newport and the pubs around haven't got busy the last few years - lots of cheap cases of booze in the local shops the week after :encouragement: The Bestival seems to be the big one now, certainly all the youngsters who can't afford to do both are choosing the Bestival over the Festival

And that's why we go to the IOW festival. Massive difference in average age between the two and although still manic the Seaclose park festival is a little more gentile for us olden's.

We have a great time at the festival whoever plays. This year I was edging my bets and hoping Bowie would be the headliner with him releasing a new album and Giddings being his tour agent, but alas...

I thought AEG tried to buy it off him last year but he wasn't interested?

I am booked for the Moto GP race that weekend at the Circuit de Cataluyna approx. 30kms from Barcelona . 3 day race ticket and Easyjet return flight from Gatwick for less than £150. How does that compare with the cost of a Festival ticket ?

We're booked in East Cowes again for the weekend and taking the Friday off work... looking at the line up, we may just do the Friday

Why on earth would they do this at the weekend? There must be much more traffic at the weekends than during the week so this makes no sense to me.
