July YM, an anchor article! cant wait for the following forum thread!

I haven't read the article obviously but I must say that I've never dragged once in 50 years using my 500lb fishermans anchor. I don't know why they bother to invent new ones.

(Is that the right sort of thing?)

Perhaps because they like to get ahead of themselves so they can take long summer holidays!

I know that isn't true. Paul Gelder told me that when they produced 12 mags per year it gave a little leeway for holidays and suchlike. Now that they have to produce 13, and recently with less staff, there is almost no time available to sit back.

As soon as I spotted the 'Can you trust your anchor?' on the front cover I had to check YBW for the resulting thread/fallout.....

And there it was right at the top of scuttlebutt!

Congrats Viv
Your technical knowledge is a great asset to the magazine.

Now can write an article to stop the charterers anchoring in front of me at 2:1 :)

Pft! I don't trust modern technology like that!

Ive got a mk1 boulder an length of rope tied round it for anchoring duties.

Anyone who uses anything else is clearly stoopid!

It is a strange article because it contradicts it self and is clearly trying to avoid endorsing or mentioning brands, it fails but it is very carefully worded. Read it yourselves I am not going to regurgitate it here!

What does it say? What does it say? It's bound to be controversial, er, wrong.... er, it stands to reason.... er, what does it say?

Did I buy the wrong one again today?

Won't it do the job?

Would you kindly go so far as to just say which anchor won ?

I haven't read the article, either. But never mind anchors, why do they have to invent new anchor articles? I'm sure they must have had perfectly serviceable anchor articles in the 1960s, and the laws of grammar haven't changed since. ;-)

There can never be a 'winner'. Some types are better than others but they cost more. Within those types some may set better, some may have higher ultimate holding, some may stow better on your boat, some may be more shiny! Nobody has yet come up with a test or acceptance criteria that can identify a winner.

In the end, and the main point of the article, the buyer chooses the most suitable anchor for his use, within his budget.
