Julians Photo guide

Dogswatch has been noticeable by his absence recently - I do hope the spat with Brendan doesn't mean we've lost another forumite /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Maybe his photo posting instructions are gone as a result too?

I hope I'm wrong...

I usually reduce mine to 600 pixels wide then they fit comfortably into the forum format without people still using 800x600 resolution (like me) having to scroll to view them and the text in the rest of the thread.

Still here...

I thought it would be more amusing to show a test card than under construction.

I am re-doing the tutor to simplify it, less options such as, photobucket works so I will concentrate only on that. I am playing with a few small proggies to resize and squash the images and when I find the best (simplest and smallest install) I will replace the tutor.

I was also interested to see if it was still in use, by making it a bit daft (testcard) I could gauge how much if any, use it actually is...

The file is still there,

I pretty much lurk nowadays, the forum stopped being fun and the lounge has become unbearable and an annex of the nazi party. Easier to stop logging in, I am a little sleepless tonight so thought I would have a quick browse.

Glad to rediscover it. Also pleased you are simplifying it. It is useful for other forums as well as this one.

Don't overlook the resizing in the edit function in Photobucket itself although the options there now do not seem to be as useful as they once were. Apart from that small simple programs that allow resizing would be the most useful for people who do not have one of the heavy weight photo editing programs.

At the end of the day it is all so simple anyway but people do seem to get in a mess trying to post photos on forums.

What I would like to do is post thumbnails which are themselves clickable links to the main pictures. Then a number of thumbnail pics can be included in a post without extending the download time unecessarily for people with dial up connections who may not wish to see all the pics anyway. I have managed to do it using the Photobucket thumbnails but it is extremely tedious to set up, needing two windows open simultaneously to copy and paste the urls. A simpler way of doing it would be welcome if you can find one.
