With winds at the top end of F5 gusting F6 on the nose, only veering and easing about now(15.00). I wonder how our fellow forum members are doing on their trip to Cherbourg?

A fair bit of diesel being burned and a degree of slamming I suspect.

Mind you the average speen is now 15knots, its neaps and the seastate looks OK. Would'nt be surprised if there's a lack of wind outside Cherbourg

.. took the Bennie close round Dodman the other weekend with a F6 on the nose and spring tide against wind .. and she behaved beatifully .. even the aeronotics were pleasantish;-)

Channel Light Vessel has been showing gusts of up to 32kts this morning. Not a particularly comfortable trip for the lighter boats, I'll be bound.

Not that I go looking for trouble, but ours has always coped, admirably, with everything thrown at it. As we are starting to sail less with the kids and more with friends, we keep wondering whether to swap her for something a bit bigger. Then look at the frequency of usage, and the questionable benefit of a bigger boat, and see sense.

Did you get the flex in your roller foil sorted? I have noticed mine slapping about a bit over the holiday, however the rigging tension feels ok. May just be that you have hightened my awareness, but I think I might ask the riggers to have a look.

Seems a long while since we met up, it would be good to remedy that before too long.

Well, we're in St Vaast, and off for dinner wth other forumites, but heading back tomorrow (other plans to fulfil...) Have fun all! I know that some have cancelled their plans to cross today, so good luck for pleasant cossings tomorrow...

So who was it outside my window at dawn pulling down a couple of slabs before heading off SSE from the Bar Beacon? Hardly a good slant for the Grande Rade . . .
