Hi Folks,

I have a project which may involve extending the length of the stern tube in a fibreglass boat. Is there recognised method of safely joining a new length of tube to the existing.Stern tube will accomodate one inch shaft.

Many thanks

Would it not be easier just to replace the old on with a longer one? By the time you find a way to do it the cost difference will probably be nothing.

I agree with Yoda. Where the two tubes meet will need some form of method of joining - screw method either has to be a collar that has to be accomodated with the stern tube 'tunnel' - probably a bit of a problem or a meants of screwing one into the other - still need some form of raised lip. Or you could braze I guess. But against that work, the cost of a new tube of the right length is probably not significant.
