Do a search on anchor chain splice, as been well covered. Also see <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.jimmygreen.co.uk/chandlery/anchorplait_splices.htm> Jimmy Green’s site </A>

A bit of whipping twine will do the job. Double it up if you are worried about strength.

If splicing octoplait to chain for the first time, recommend that you get an octoplait that has different colours (such as that supplied by Jimmy Green) as it will make the task that much simpler. If you buy from them, you will get a book with appropriate drawings to be able to do the splice, and it is very easy (IMHO) /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

It's easy enough to use different coloured marker pens to mark up the different strands of white octoplait.

only splice the rope into the chain if it needs to run over a combination gypsy, otherwise use an eye splice and a shacle to reduce chafe and increase strength.
