Hi guys n gals, just getting into boating and purchased a small 14ft fletcher cathedral hull speed boat. the engine that came with it has johnson seahorse and a big 18 on the back, on the side there were numbers that i think were the horse power (40hp im told) the model no i think is FD12 1r or FDL21R Can anyone shed any light on whether this is correct. Thanks.

With a number of FDL21R I am not sure about the first two letters but I think the L indicates long shaft (20" transom), the final R indicates rope start & the 21 is the horsepower at the flywheel which would be about 18 at the prop. It sounds like an 18hp to me!
