What's wrong with this?

Says they are safe on plastic baths, so why not plastic tubs? Only says do not use on soft plastic.

Had a magic effect on our Volvo-smoked transom so far . . . will put a wax polish on top.

It's too cheap and too simple, so I must be ruining the boat - anyone care to comment?

I've been using these for years, and there still seems to be lots of gelcoat on the boat! Best way is to use sparingly, and apply it with a big soapy sponge. Needs very thorough rinsing otherwise a white residue is left when the surface driws. I follow up with Meguiars Polish, then Meguiars Wax. Looks pretty good for about 2 years.

Ah ! But has it got Teflon ?

As we all know, everything boaty ( and in life) must have Teflon and cost at least 12 quid ( was ten quid until about two years ago).

I have used Jif for about ten years, and find it one of the best 'all round' multi-tasking products along with our other good mate Oxy Acid. I have given up buying grp polish (with Teflon of course) because the shine seems to last for a very short time and definitely attracts the yellow water line stain faster than without.

For stains that won't go away I also use 1000 grade wet & dry used very wet and little pressure. SWMBO has always made me clean the bathroom and toilets in our house and despite a few thousand hours on my part, the bath and toilets show no signs wearing through despite my heavy handed male JIffing.

As an aside, I recently heard a talk on Radio 4 about rhubarb. It's the LEAVES that contain Oxalic Acid and not the stems. Up until the last war, many deaths were caused by eating the leaves. Could be worth passing the leaves off as Cos lettuce though if required ..............................

Very glad to hear it!

My old mum came to visit the good ship Silkie (on the hard) last weekend for the first time ever. Nothing would do but she had to start cleaning and she didn't seem much impressed with with my methods on the hull. She jumped in the car and went off to look for VIM (remember that?) and was somewhat disappointed (I was somewhat relieved) that the best she could get was CIF. She insisted that with the right technique VIM would have been just the very dab (this is a woman who has no practical experience with GRP hulls whatsoever) but within a couple of hours, hamstrung as she was by the CIF, she had made a creditable job of half of the hull.
She says she's coming back next weekend to finish the job. I could of course ask what her hourly rates are if anyone's interested but I might be keeping her busy myself right up to the start of the season.

Shush, don't tell anyone, the price will hit the roof!
The only problem is the white residue, but it does polish off.

I'm afraid i think it's a rubbish idea because you are abrading the surface.

Try "truckwash" or (better) get some of poster hlb's special boat cleaner diluted 20 ish to 1 - the grime falls off without abrading the gelcoat which you can mark with a brush let alone abrasiev cleaners. imho

Don't use lemon-flavour in the summer: the smell attracts thousands of tiny flies, so your topsides look shiny but poxy.
