you are selling me on the outboard concept but I can't ski off a small one so I guess I need a bigger one
which means I need a bigger mothership!!
.....and I only bought her last week!!
doubt I find A 2nd hand wb with 20hp on it, so I end up paying 8k for a new one.
maybe I step up and buy a 4 Stroke 285 and keep a cheap lightweight in the locker
that's not out of the question, but if I find my passarelle will only a lift balsa wood model I gotta resort to that terrible boating word.....compromise!! aaaaahhhh!!
 
Another thing to consider with 2 stroke Jet Ribs
You cant tow them through the water at any speed - I believe that water can get into the crank case - dont entirely understand why but thats what I've heard.
So if you are going to get a cheap 2 stroke Jet Rib it HAS to be lifted onto th ebathing platform - towing is a no no.
 
thanks, only time I might try towing wud be if mooring is rough and load might snatch on pasarelle doing damage and then only short distance to shelter (hopefully!) then crane up
 
Do the ~4yr old 2 stroke Avons and Williams all use the exact same power unit?!

Yes, for sure. It's the weber engine and jet unit. Nice machine but hi tech and too tightly fitted in the boat IMHO. I have owned one. However, if you want to ski then you,d better buy one!
 
Interesting thread guys.
As a closet FL Squaddie 42 letch, had those 6 numbers on a pink ticket come up, then it would have had a williams 285 sat on the stern. Now it won't have.

Now all I need is those 6 numbers.

Very informative. Reading twixt the lines, I think I'd settle for a lightweight with something like a 10hp on the back as part of the dream is to anchor off beach and be able to eat the evening meal at small beachfront tavernas.
