Jet stream track for 14 days ahead...

Thanks for posting this. We used to live in Southern Brittany a long time ago and I remember that every evening on the main French TV News show that the weather forecast would always show the position of the Jeststream. The position of the Jetstream was almost the most important thing that the French forecast talked about. In the UK the Jetstream has even more effect yet we very rarely hear about it.

It's interesting to see that yesterday that the position of the Jetstream explained perfectly why the weather was worse in the North of England and Scotland.

I very much suspect the reason for not promulgating (Big word) the position of the jet stream is, once again the British propensity (another big word) to treat the general public as mushrooms (IE kept in the dark and fed on bullsh*t) if we were able to access the position of the jet stream as a matter of course we be as informed as well as the forecasters in the media and that would just not do!

Also why should this simple information in the so called shipping forecast be couched in jargon... some examples would be... veering = wind direction changing clockwise... backing wind direction changing anticlockwise... Sea areas with code names... Lundy, Fastnet, Sole & etc. why not say it as it is... Bristol Channel & etc.

It should be able to understood by Joe Public, the weather is fundamental to the safety of small craft and and we all use small craft! I have been hove too in the North Sea an 100,000 ton Tanker... so there

Why not broadcast the weather continuously as they do in the land of the Kiwi... hit the V.H.F. channel 22 button
and it is streamed 24/7 and in speak that can be understood by all... IE strong winds today in The Cook Straight, unsuitable for small craft...

Grrrrr... rant over... :)

Not perfect for sea conditions but for wind, vis etc get a scanner and tune into the ATIS (air traffic information service) for the nearest airport. They stream it 24/7. Or get internet on board:p

I think I have seen some VHF equipment advertised with ATIS capability.
