jet drive vs outboard

Is it possible to convert from outboard (suzuki 50) to a jet drive on a 17ft cathedral hull ? If so could I run it on a diesel ? And do the same power restrictions for transom ratings still hold for the inboard engine on the jet drive too ?
Hope someone can help clear this up for me !
