I have just spoken to him this morning - apparently he has been back a couple of days.

He said they looked after him well(ish) but he wants to get back to his mission.

he has to build a new rudder as the old onw sheered off in the grounding.

However his main concern is that the Council confiscated 450 gallons of diesel which he had in barrels onboard.

Other than that he seemed better than ever before,

That's 90 standard 5 gallon jerry cans! I'm gobsmacked that he could find space for that lot on anything but a superyacht!
Richard

He told me it was in 50 gall barrels - presumably thats 10 or so. He said that he had built a "rail" for them to sit on and they were "cinched" down with a lorry strap. But that is obviously why the council were so worried.

How can a council " confiscate" something?

He said that was under "The Marine Catastrophy Act" - I don't suppose he has got this exactly right.

As reported at the time, the authorities were concerned about diesel spillage causing a pollution hazard. I imagine they have powers to hold items until they are sure that they do not pose a threat.

Great to hear he is back.
I confess I thought nobody would ever see him again outside an institution.
If I ever find myself in that neck of the woods I will have to drop in on him, he sounds fascinatingly eccentric, my favourite type of person.

Does he need help drafting a letter to them? usually these things are straight forward as long as you do what they ask, but I think his approach will be important.

Did this guy really have almost 2 tons of diesel on deck?

It must have raised his center of mass to near water level?

So he tells me - can't say i have actually seen it to corroborate (spl?).

He says he still has 200+ galls in a tank in the keel.

Have you seen photos of the boat - I posted one before.

it is steel and built like a brick s**t-house and sits very deep in the water so I dont find it very surprising.

If you saw the state of the sails (pre -accident) you wouldn't want to have to rely on them. I imagine he thought he would motor most of the way.

Sorry for the Dylanesque style here!
