On my newly acquired mobo the throttle control opens smoothly up to cruising revs. However a very small movement back causes a big drop in revs and I then need to build them back up again. Is this a sticky control and if so any suggestions for lubrication. The engine is a 4 cylinder 230 Yanmar. Everything else is fine - starting, tick over, top speed, power etc. My previous mobo had fly by wire throttles and so I don't know if this is usual with cable linkages

The lever on the engine - check you haven't leaned on it making it catch as it releases. If you have gently bend it back away from the engine.

doesn't sound right - they should perform in a very similar fashion to electronic jobbies. Have a look at the engine/fuel pump lever where the cable connects and get someone to slowly move the morse lever back and forth. They are quite simple so should be easy to fix.
You could also try disconnecting the cable at the engine and do the same - it should feel nice and smooth with no jerking.
