Jeanneau Sunrise 35 top rudder bearing needed

I had a bearing made by QD plastics in Dumbarton. A bit far from you but loads of engineering companies will make something like that. Make sure its made with correct material like delrin that won't expand much when wet.

In most cases you will need to measure the shaft and the carrier (tube bearing is mounted in) accurately, and give details if there are any flanges. With this information bearings can be supplied with correct clearances for either press or epoxy fit. Some suppliers may have the details of straight replacements but I'd check any way.

There are a range of materials you can choose from Polyacetal/Delrin (the economy option), to other materials which will give less movement and less wear as well as low friction, Delrin works quite well in most low load rudder applications, I used Delrin on my Bav 41 before I discovered Maritex it was still looking good after two Atlantic crossings.

We do make Maritex rudder bearings to order with a 10-15 day lead time at the moment as the Christmas work load has been quite high.

Rudder bearing

Thank you all for your replies. I have all the measurements for the bearing.

The rudder stock shaft diameter is 38mm and my boat is in Greece where the temperature range is from 0 to +40 degrees C. Will Delrin be suitable in these conditions and what clearance do you think is needed to make sure the bearing does not seize up in the middle of the summer.

I had thought of getting the internal bearing diameter made to 38.25mm. Will 0.25 mm clearance be enough?
