I think of buying one built 1988 , furling genoa, furling mains in a tube on the mast, yanmar turbo 86 HP. Are there any comments on the behaviour of this boat under sail or motor? what about osmosis? Many thanks in advance.

I asked a broker about a 1989 Jeanneau Voyage 12.50, and he told me that in his experience most of the ones he had seen had some degree of osmosis blitering. I do not think that the more resistant resins were in use then, so you must expect some degree of problem, which can be a very useful price negotiating tool. I think I would be more worried about potential problems with elderly in mast furling gear, and when the standing rigging was replaced, as insurers wont like it if it is original.

I. had Sun magic for 12 years, wonderful boat ,wish the new JEN&ben were half as good .Would not have in mast reefing though as this boat is a very fast boat with a fully battened main will leave a sun legend 41 and voyager in its wake.

Just back from a week sailing on one in Majorca, nothing below 45 feet passed us all week. The one I was on had a 50hp perkins and motored quite happlily at 7 knots with 2000 rpm on the clock so 86 hp should be well powerful enough. As for osmosis yes this was a 1989 example and it did have it. Wonderful boat but as with any it will depend how well it has been looked after.
