We went out for brief test run on a new Merry Fisher 895 today, as it’s a boat we‘re interested in. It had two 200 HP outboards. At one point we cruised at 22 knots, which was OK, except that the hull did slam into two or three waves, which was a surprise (sea conditions were good, probably between 3 and 4). The impact sent a shudder through the boat and was very audible. We expected at that speed that the planing hull would result in a more stable and smoother ride. Any tboughts?

As for the design, interior and use of space, we were very impressed. It met our needs.

What you felt is what you get
You will have noticed how ‘roomy’ the MF895 is
The hull is more ‘bluff’ forward than some of its siblings
It’s a trade off with that size of planing hull
The boat will still plane just about at 16kts
In choppy conditions the power on hand is useful to ‘adjust’ speed for the conditions
Yes at about 4000 rpm cruising is nice at about 20kts
Anything on or about a 1 metre short chop at planing speeds and ‘slam’ they do
Most of the Genre behave similarly
It’s a trade off
Either you go bigger
Or semi displacement
Or full displacement
Or a ‘full on’ offshore powerboat
Considering the layout and what’s packed in to the size of the boat
It’s very good
That’s one of the ‘trade offs’

One option we are considering, but haven’t been able to view one yet, is the MF 1095 (or even the Antares 11).
