Hi there hope someone can shed a little light. I have searched through the forum and it would appear this topic has come up before but the answer wasn't a fit for my problem
Jeanneau Leader 9 about 2010 with french 2 pin round sockets. I want to change them to UK 3 pin. It was suggested these were Berker sockets so I bought some, but they are not the same size as the installed sockets which have a 46mm fixing spacing and an overall outside width of 60mm. Unfortunately Berker sockets are just a little smaller than this and subtly different.
The installed have a round grey plastic back box which clips around the socket, the clips then becoming the clip for the front plate covering the attachment screws.
Search as I have I cannot find anything the same. The Berker socket is just the wrong size to replace the installed.
Can anyone help please
Many thanks

Talk to a jeanneau dealer, I am sure they would be able to advise.

This may be a silly question but why don’t you just plug in UK adaptors into the French sockets (that’s what I’ve done)

This may be a silly question but why don’t you just plug in UK adaptors into the French sockets (that’s what I’ve done)

A variety of reasons really. It is difficult to find UK adaptors that are genuinely capable of carrying high loads - plug up a fan heater into the average airport departure lounge adaptor and it warms up rather quickly. They also generally result in the live and neutral being reversed - not a massive risk with most modern devices, but a theoretical hazard. They also tend to be installed in places where the cable run from an adaptor is not convenient - continental plugs usually have the cable exiting in line with the plug whereas UK plugs (and wall warts) usually have the cable exiting at right angles. It is often the case that the boat builder has installed the socket close to a corner such that the cable exiting a UK plug in an adaptor will foul the wall or shelf back.

That said, no boat I've ever owned came with sufficient sockets installed - I always end up fitting additional UK sockets into holes cut into the wall close to floor level. I'm in the process of doing that to our latest boat right now - just having difficulty routing the cables from the new sockets to the distribution panel.
