Thinking about changing my existing Jeanneau 635 Cap Camarat ( which has been an excellent boat )for a larger Jeanneau possibly 805 leader with single diesel inboard.
Does anyone own one and can recommend them or have any old test reports available to read.

Hi KG,

I have a 2007 Leader 805 with a D4 260hp which I am very happy with. It is based in Penarth Marina nr Cardiff.

PM me back if you need any information.

Best Regards

Wakeup.

Somewhere or other I have a test report on a fairly early Leader 805 imaginitively entitled "Jeanneau what I mean". It was carried out by Sports boat and rib mag sometime around 2002. I would hope that I wouldn't be sued for copyright on something so old, but drop me a pm with your email addy and I shall nip a black and white scan across to you..

Great boat, only down-side I could ever find to it was the canopy, it can be a bit iffy. But great boat overall for its size

Also depends upon year, the covers were improved from 2005 onwards. I have seen a custom cover though that fixed all the foibles which I might copy.

There were some slight differences, but the fitting remained more or less the same.
Slide in the front windscreen bead.
Zip on the front sprayhood.
Pull front frame work down with one hand, hold sprayhood with one hand, zip sprayhood on to top section with another hand....

And so on.

Still, a darn sight easier than a Cranchi cover!

speaking about covers.....

my leader is a 2002, so have the old cover version.
is it possible to remove the transparent windscreen part? cant see much with it.
gracias. :)

Thanks
Apologies for the delay in responding as i am currently away on holiday.
i assume you boat in the Bristol Channel due to your marina location ?
The D4 i am told is the better choice of engine ? is it reasonably fuel efficient and reliable ?
my existing Jeanneau has been great which i bought new ,just looking for something a bit bigger for occasional overnighting etc.
am starting to research good condition nearly new models at present, or may go for a new leader 8 not sure yet.

Well it depends just how well they have been maintained. I'd take a well maintained KAD43 versus a poorly maintained D4 any day, as a poorly maintained D4 will cost you lots when it goes wrong. It also depends upon the EVC generation of the D4. If it is early, then you would need to ensure several re-calls have been applied e.g. steering rams changes and raw water filter caps changed for different design. If you are looking at Leader 8 as opposed to 805 then all of these issues have been addressed on the D4 now with that model.

Yes boating in Bristol channel for the rest of this season and then perhaps shipping to the Med next year.

Hi Wakeup
Do you have any more info on these recalls? Can I find them on the internet? Have a friend going to see an 805 with a D4 tomorrow and it would be good if he had a checklist of items that should have been upgraded. I believe its a 2006 boat

A Volvo dealer should be able to look up the engine serial numbers and tell you what has and hasn't been applied to the engine in question. The ones quoted in earlier post are the ones I remember being essential on my boat but there could be others, e.g. Ram gaitors for the steering rams. The must do job on the 805 is to re wire the battery set up and add a battery, the factory default is two 110ah batteries wired in parallel which battery switches on both pos and negative terminals, totally daft. Need a separate starter battery and domestics with usual selector switch.

Hello everyone , my first ever post ! I am buying a leader 805 boat for use on the coast of south of france , i will be using on the sea but also a lot on a small seawater lake called the Etang De Thau which is a wonderful lake , but heres my question - the lake itself is joined at either end by the canal du midi , enablng us to use the whole network of inland waterways which is what i have been used to hiring boats for the last few years heer, the sea is a whole new experience for me and i wanted to know would the 805 be ok trundling along at low speeds , say 4-5 knots for a few days , or would this damage the engine? of course as soon as i rech the lake again i can go back to normal 20 knots or so to clear engine but i really would love to know if prolonged use of engines at very slow speeds would damage anything?

Also what fuel economy would you expect me to get at these low speeds through canals? would it be a lot lower than normal cruising speed?

the boat i will buy will be the diesel engine i think

thank you so much if anyone can advise me - i simply cannot wait to get her moored up and ready to use in next couple of months
