Hello, I have a 2004 SO. Some of the finish on the internal wood (I assume its wood) in the heads is starting to flake a little. I don't know if it is varnished or finished/sealed in some other way. Has anyone come across suggestions of what I'm supposed to do to repair it? Thanks

I have a 2004/5 SO35: most of the interior is lacquered ply with solid wood edge trim - on all this a normal fine/medium sandpaper rub-down, several gloss varnish coats followed by a couple of coats of Epifanes "rubbed-effect" varnish gives a near-as-dammit as-original finish (assuming you know how to paint/varnish properly).

However Jeanneau used some thin wood-finish melamine/formica-type laminate in two places - companionway sides and in the heads shower area. Obviously used as intended to be more water-resistant. You can't rub down and revarnish this stuff. Much more of a problem if this is flaking.

I have a 2001 SO .… I have a similar situation with my woodwork. I’ve found a Ronseal water based varnish is a very good match. Can’t remember exact details but it’s a satin varnish and I bought it from B and Q

On my Jeanneau the original flooring and steps are laminate. All interior vertical wood like panels are veneered plywood. Not very easy to repair so I too would be interested in how to fix deep chips and scratches in the veneer. Attempts so far have produced darker patches where the exposed plywood underneath has soaked up the varnish. In some cases I am wondering if it would be quicker to cut the panel out and replace with new, for example parts of a table, a door or locker door. Even some grp tabbed in panels might be surprisingly easy to replace.
