I sail a fairly new Jeanneau 410 with a lifting keel. Almost a common practise of mine is to raise the keel and anchor up in a shallow bay but I just spotted this in the manual "The raised keel is only for sailing in shallow water at low speed. In all other configurations, when the boat is sailing or is at anchor, the keel must be fully lowered".

Any ideas why this might be (apart from different AVS which probably not valid at anchor 99.9% of the time).

I'd interpret this as meaning that (jn terms of anchoring) the boat's not designed to dry out on the rudders at anchor. Unless the specification says otherwise.

Otherwise what's the point of a lifting keel, if you can't take the boat into shallow anchorages!?

However, we did have a Parker 28 capsize unattended on its mooring at our club, moored with keel up, in one of last year's storms. So the stability can be a problem if conditions conspire. But a Parker 28 and Jeanneau 410 are very different beasts.

The manual mentions elsewhere that "the boat is not designed to be grounded, even with props" so that's understood but why not anchor in 2m with the keel up (1.45m draft)?
