A 37 ft.Mamba has just appeared for sale .Does anyone have any info or knowledge of this model of boat.14 were built by lotus/JCL with v type drives.
Worth looking at or do not touch with barge pole?.
Remember talk by one of lotus sales team about delamination of unnamed model of boat hull while on sea trial with press on board.
Roared out of harbour but crept back very slowly"to allow turbos to cool down properly"while plying journos with free booze.

Gedda petrol.cheaper, quieter, less vibration n simpler to maintain...

Hmmm, one for Byron. As far as I remeber, JCL extended the range upwards from the Moonraker and made the Marauder and the Mamba, The Marauder I remeber well, I remeber thinking it was stunning to look at, aft cabin and Powles styling slightly, but stunning to look at.....in the early 80s. The Mamba was in between Marauder and Moonraker, and I vaguely remeber very modernistic styling but not quite on the mark, not as fab as the Marauder. There were ads in MBY in the early 80s

I think the Marauder was a separate development to the Mamba, a sort of bigger Moonraker. I think the Mamba and the Mirage were the same series, the Mirage being the larger of the two.

They had V-drives with the engines under the aft deck which I presume makes them relatively quiet, and some kind of layup that made the inside almost as smooth as the outside, easy to clean etc. They didn't look too tough though and the Mamba looked a bit too short for the style. Having said all that, I also saw the ad and thought it would be worth a look.

The Mirage I went on had a very un-boaty saloon and I remember wondering how all the cupboards and lockers would get on in a seaway, lots of glossy wood and aluminium finishes and that kind of "sprayed on" velvet look stuff in the cabins.

I thought the Mirage was riveting to look at, but see the pic of the Mamba I think maybe style has moved on, though having said that I also hate the "old model Mondeo" styling of so many of todays offerings. I still have a brochure for the Mirage somewhere.
