Jammed Volvo Engine Control

Engines are KAD 42s and the port enigne control gearbox is jammed (not cables), this was very exciting in the marina! Any tips on these welcome - should I drill out the rivets and investigate, or just buy a new one, or replace whole lot with a different make. Thanks Nic

I see your in Plymouth. Your not clear as to whether it's the actual gear box thats stuck or in the linkage. Disconect and try the gearbox leaver, then work back.

Hmm. Investigate repair job. I bought Two new ones at great expence. Not for that problem though. If you can I'd take it out and give it to a desent engineer for his verdict. Then see what the spare parts job is. Dont just talk to V* SplutterVo They will take you for a ride.

Just to clarify Barry. Yes V*splutter*vo take you for the ride even if Gearboxes dont!!

Hi, I had similar with my KAD42's- but in my case it was BOTH gear cables that had siezed- leaving me being blown across the marina! Deft use of the bow thruster and a giant leap with bow line in my hand saved the day. In future I'll always check briefly the gears before casting off!

We live and learn...
