Hi
There are three little levers on top of my engine.
If they are all pushed one way the engine works. If one or
more is pushed the other way the starter wines like mad,
the pulleys turn but there is no overall compression.
Its a Yanmar 3 cylinder engine.
I had my engine running for a while this morning but it stalled
after ten minutes because there was an air lock in the fuel
system following flushing the diesel tank.
I had an engineer on board later while I was absent. He appears
to have flicked all three levers in the no-compression position.
He then disappeared early and I ended up fixing the air lock in the
fuel system that he was supposed to fix myself. I then thought
I'd give her a whirl.
To my dismay I found all three compression levers jammed
in the no compression position. I managed to toggle one but the
other two will not budge. The one I toggleed is now firmly stuck in
the "compression" position. So I guess I'm 33% there
I have tried turning the engine over a few times while wiggling
the levers.
What's the prognosis? The engine was alledgedly reconditioned in
Split, Croatia last year and is still under some sort of "guarantee."
Does this problem require a top end rebuild or the rocker cover/head
off and a bit of gentle persuasion? Or am I missing something obvious,
like another lever somewhere?
The boat has been on the hard since October last year.
I took the oil filler off and can see no rust, just a fine oily surface
and a spring extended along some sort of shaft. That's about it.
Any ideas greatly appreciateed. thanks
