Hi folks,

I wonder if any Jaguar 21 or 25 owners, or other knowledgeable folk, could offer some guidance on locations for anodes on a swing keel Jag 25 with ali rudder please?

I imagine the situation is a little tricky and I am not sure whether the rudder should have an anode, should be bonded to the hull anode, or is best left without????

Similarly, unsure about the iron swing keel? Should it have its own anode, no anode, or be bonded to hull anode ???

The boat does not have an inboard engine or prop shaft.

Help and recommendations gratefully received and specific description of the setup on other Jag 25s also greatly received.

Thanks folks,

Rob

A cast iron keel does not need an anode to "protect" the casting. An anode is used when there are 2 metals with different potential in contact with each other in seawater. Iron is (almost) one metal with maybe a few impurities in it and the only issue in seawater is rust which an anode won't do anything about. The other possible problems might be the pivot bolt, but I suspect that might run in a bush in the keel which isolates it, and the lifting strop depending on how it is arranged and attached to the keel. However you can inspect this for corrosion and replace if necessary.

Somewhat similar with the rudder. Aluminium is chosen because it is corrosion resistant and the potentially weak points are its attachment and pivot. These may well be stainless which has a higher potential than aluminium, but again there are likely to be isolating bushes.

Overall if everything is in mechanically sound condition, no need for anodes.
