My brother has asked me to take a look at a Jaguar 21 he is considering. Anything in particular I should look out for?

Hi, These were built by Russel Marine Southend on Sea. I believe they are now on the Charfleets estate Canvey Island. A sound starter boat. regards, les.

Sail quiet well.
Many years ago I recovered one which had been neglected by the owner on a swinging mooring and the lift keel fittings had corroded causing it to sink.
A happy ending to the story however I met the same owner and the boat ten years later in a marina 200 miles away and he was still sailing it.
Check the lifting keel fittings for wear.

I had a 1983 Jaguar 23 (Canvey Yacht builders) which got pretty bad osmosis about 5 years ago. It was a very similar style boat, and sailed nicely. Keel mechanism was pretty suspect, but I survived with it, and the trailer I bought it with was unroadworthy. Good fun to sail and made a x-channel trip without any problems.
