jabsco shower bilge pump fault

Just found out that my Jabsco shower pump 37202-2 is not actually sucking any water from the bilge although pump motor runs fine and the pre filter is clean.
I am yet to take the unit apart but what should I be looking out for, are there any components that are susceptible to damage? . Are there spares to be had for the units in the UK.

Sorry should have said that I have two of the units one for the shower and other for stern seal bilge - its this one that’s gone awry

If you do want to overhaul it, easy job once you have extracted it from its location. kits available for diaphragm and valves see www.jabscoshop.com and follow instructions to get exploded diagram. There are two different designs of diaphragm depending on the second half of the pump part number.

Worth checking the pipe run to make sure you do not have a one way valve that has failed. Pump will still run as it is designed to run dry. Had this on mine when somebody had put the valve in the wrong way round! Still overhauled the pump because only discovered the valve problem afterwards!

Depending on the usage, it's less likely that a seal or diaphragm has packed up than the chances of something like a bit of hair upsetting the seal-seat. They're absurdly simple pumps- take the 4 screws out of the "base" (the pumpy-type-thingy at the bottom) and pull the whole assembly apart. Lift the valve-plate off and clean the valve-seats. If it's all okay, then it might be a bust diaphragm. In an emergency you can fix them with one of those new bike-repair kits with the little clear plasters that don't need rubber-cement. I really like the 37202's because they're so much more reliable than the bilge-pumps-in-boxes that some builders insist on using!

Not sure what type of pre-filter you have but on our Jabsco shower pumps the pre-filter has a clear plastic cover. Found when one pump would not suck that the plastic cover had a hairline crack across the thread, this was letting air in, so pump would not prime.
Assume it had been over tightened and cracked by previous owners!

stuff can get through the pre filter. Ours stopped sucking when glitter (don't ask) was spilled in the shower.
