I have now replaced the "o" ring piston seal three times this month in one of our heads. After onl a few days tthey start to "screech" alerting the whole vessel, if not the anchorage to my activities.

I suspect that the reason for this poor material now used is contained in the notice on the parts bag which says "Made in China"!

I had one that turned to a goo resembling sticky tar last year.... we couldn't think of anything in the way of cleaners that had affected it so yet another change.. A small amount of olive oil can cure the squeak for quite some time...

We have the squeak on both of ours. Oil works for a short time but seriously thinking about going back to lavac as we had on last boat. We had the elderley in laws on the boat this weekend and they struggled with the loo. The pumps are so stiff to use.

Waterproof grease works better than Olive oil and lasts much longer. Put some over the o ring or in the barrel next time.

If it squeaks it needs lubricating, we used cooking oil, others use olive oil, others grease, which means taking the piston our, and there may be other things used. Anything that is used will be washed away, so when it starts to feel a bit stiff (before squeaking) lubricate it. As a liveaboard using the loo 24X365 we used to have to put cooking oil down twice a day.

I have just done this to both our heads today. Remove the plunger and put a small 9tiny0 amount of grease (I usually use LM grease) inside the barrel and smear all the way around the top. The plunder will pick this up and move it down the barrel. You only need a very small amount to coat the inside of the barrel. We live on-board and this usually stops the 'squeaks' for about 3 to 4 months of constant use.
