I will shortly be removing and refitting the sea water pump on my Perkins 4108, in order to replace the seals. The Perkins manual states 'when replacing cam fitted in impeller housing, be certain to coat the entire top surface, rear face and securing set screw holes with a suitable jointing compound'. I would be grateful for any advice on what is considered to be a 'suitable jointing compound' !

Many thanks

Neil

hylomar is cleaner to use that hermatite

I recently rebuilt one for another owner. The cam and screw had been assembled using what appeared to be Stag paste. It's only to keep water from leaking out of the screw, so almost anything will do. Hylomar at £5 per tube is a little OTT, I think.
