Just up-graded my domestic cold water from a foot pump to pressurised by using a jabsco auto pressure pump . I'm disappointed to say the least /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif. The bloody pump is very noisy and pulsates continually whilst in use . Has anyone used this type of pump ?? Are they renowned to be noisy?? Maybe it a poor installation --- any ideas anyone ????

Cheers

Terry

they do tend to make a bit of noise, I've just delivered a 1.2 million Oyster 56 and the pump systems pulsate throughout the boat !!! the options from an engineering view point would be to mount on cotton reel rubbers, this might help regards Greg

I also put one in this Winter and it whirrs a little but does not pulsate. I mounted it on rubber feet to reduce the possibility of sound transmission.
Try some sound deadening/absorbing material around or adjacent to the pump. Even a little carpet will help to absorb the sound.

Good advise to mount on rubbers /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif but also, if connected direct to solid pipe, try putting a short flexible pipe between pump and solid pipe

The pulsation can be evened out by fitting an accumulator tank in the system such as this:

Maybe there is a flow adjustment. I have a Flojet and it has a tiny screw to adjust inside a cover on the end. It so you can set the sense point so it knows to stop (and start )

The noise has its advantages. It discourages (and advertises) water wastage and I rather like mine. Just remember to turn it off at nights otherwise the occasional pressure top-up can be annoying, especially for the one whose bunk the pump is under.

I had an old Par which was noisy so I installed a Whale which was just as bad. I mounted it on rubber but it didn’t make much difference. At least you know if someone has left the tap on.

Thanks for all your replies chaps . Guess I'm stuck with it then . Wish I knew about the noise though the Mrs is n't going to be happy !!!!
/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I dont know why I 'm making a joke of it I'm in deep doo doo . /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

agreed a bit of noise is a good warning of leaks, ours is not over noisy and we have an accumulater to minimise pulsing.
