Jabsco loo won\'t pump water in...

Any advice on the best place to start looking, before I start pulling things to bits, would be greatly appreciated.

The bowl pumps out, but, having flipped the valve over, it doesn't pump flushing water in.

The inlet seacock is open, so is the diverter valve the most likely culprit?

Many thanks.

Check for air leak on the inlet side. Do a search , there was an identical post a few days ago.

Try filling the toilet bowl with hot water (jsut off the boil)and then pumping out. Sometimes when the rubber valve gets stuck when not used for a long period. This works for me every time.

Re: Jabsco loo won\'t pump water in...

This is a very common problem with the Jabsco...I have had three identical failures in 3 years....
The failure is in the flipper at the top that opens the valve to pump the water in, it fails in the pump out only position.

Its a crappy bit of plastic that doesnt last for peanuts...

Anyways, You can fix this very easily,

The best bet is to buy a complete new Jabsco Pump assembly, (Should be about £50) then simply unscrew the inlet and outlet hoses, and then unscrew the base and the main outlet hose, and replace the whole assembly in one go.
Takes about 5 minutes and v easy to do.

Then buy the kit of parts, and fix the old pump assembly, keeping it as a back up for when the new one fails. (As it will!)(Parts kit is about £36)

Most decent chandlers have these bits in stock, or failing that get it direct from Jabsco.

THEN; COMPLAIN TO JABSCO. The last failure happened to me 2 weeks ago with 4 people on board and right at the start of our Hols. Cost me £100 ex vat to get a new pump and get it sent out to us, This after the same failure last April.

JABSCO TOILETS ARE RUBBISH, and are NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE. IMHO. 3 Failure in three seasons is not acceptable, and I shall be seeking compensation from them for selling this junk to me!

In the interm you can flush simply by adding water from a bucket/WHY and then pumping out.

If you run quite a bit of clean water through before working, its not that bad a job!

Check out growth on the hull I had a large Bi valve ( I can`t spell anenomie) take up residence over the intake pipe entry and as soon as they were shifted all was well again. Just a thought.

Take the whole lot out and replace with a lavac!

Re: Jabsco loo won\'t pump water in...

Had this problems at the beginning of the season - following fitting 2 new pump units. Problem appears to be that they changed the design and eliminated the small spring which located the flap. If it is this problem, you will see it by removing the top of the pump, under which you will find the seals. If there is no spring - ring up Jabsco and tell them your problem - they will send a new seal pack free complete with the important spring unit.

In saying this, I only replaced the seals in the foreward heads , as the rear ones seem to be ok - but do hick up occaisionally. This is solved normally by a few very rapid short strokes.

They were very helpfull.

In respect of the Lavac - I have had both. I used to thinkl that the Lavac was the best thing since sliced bread, until the jabsco, which is so less crude.

Hope you fix your problem

After my research i found Jabsco came out fine so bought one! only used it a few times though. Should i buy spares b4 going away and if so which?

Re: Jabsco loo won\'t pump water in...

Happened to me last year in the IOW. Took the whole loo to pieces without success....
At wits end, undid inlet connection to sea water in and turned on valve - nothing. Totally blocked with seaweed.
Spoke to a new owner of a Victoria 45, in Yarmouth last week. His on board generator had shut itself down due to overheating.
Exactly the same problem - seaweed in the intake.
Memo to self - check the water inlet feed before doing anything else!
