Jabsco Fresh Water Pump

I need to replace my domestic water pump and am looking at the Jabsco 31600-0292. There are two types one operating at 25 psi and the other 40 psi but the flow rate is the same as is the price.

Is there any advantage of having the higher pressure pump and if so what if the flow rate is the same? I have a shower on board which I would like to have a decent pressure but if the flow rate is the same......

I suggest you check the pressure relief valve (PRV) release pressure on your calorifier. If the pump pressure is too high the PRV will be blowing off continuously. This will help you decide which pump to fit. (or you could also uprate the PRV to as higher pressure if necessary)

At open flow, the flow will be the same, all the pressure switch does is switch the pump off. So go for a higher pressure switch, make the pump work harder, increase motor wear, reduce motor life, for no gain....

It's only the Americans, that think a higher pressure, pressure switch, will give more flow!! As Brits, would like to think we are more intelligent.....

Unless your boat is large, in which the plumbing would have a higher system resistance. In this case the higher head could be very necessary to deliver any flow to the furthest reaches.

Thanks for your posts. I'll go for the low pressure version. My boat is not 'large' and the lower pressure pump will put less strain on the pipe fittings too, lessening the chance of a leak.
