Our pump is reluctant to turn off and likes to come on periodically and run for a few seconds. No obvious water leaks from the system.
The pump is about 8 years old, Is it possible to fix this, or is it a throw away and get a new one?

I thought I had a developing pump issue but it turned the breather for the tank was clogged.
Also check/clean the filter on the input side of the pump.

A couple of years ago my pump was leaking slightly and I cured this by fitting new O rings . The electrical terminal on the pressure switch was corroded . People said it was waste of time but the pump is still in service.

There’s much to be said for stripping the pump, replacing any worn parts and seeing if that solves the problems. Could be as simple as a bit of dirt allowing pressure to escape through a partially seated valve. Worth giving it a go: csrta8nly worked for me when our pump suddenly decided to start working intermittently: didn’t find any obvious worn bits, didn’t replace anything but stripping, cleaning and reassembling did the trick.

If you are sure there are no leaks or tap dripping it is probably due to worn valves in the pump or maybe just some crud in them
A valve kit is £14.50 .......... a lot less than a new pump

If you dont have an inlet strainer get one at the same time

I would bet almost anything that there is a water leak somewhere. The usual culprit is the deck shower dripping somewhere or the expansion tank leaking. It could of course be anywhere else but that symptom really suggests a leak.
