Having fitted one a few months ago , and grateful that Princess included a feed cable in the harness clearly tagged , had nothing but trouble ! One day it works OK , another day nothing !!!
After months of checking the power supply etc. , it transpires some of the units are ' tight ' and jam ! The motor could have a bit more ' grunt ' ? Apparently the impellors can be a very tight fit . Very dissappointing when they cost the best part of £300 ! Also the plastic Jabsco use for the base unit is very soft , once the screws have been removed you have to be extremely careful on re - assembly to avoid stripping the threads . Why don't they mould in steel inserts to give a more serviceable product ?
Has anyone else experienced the same annoying problems with the motor unit and soft , very soft plastic moulding ? Or do Jabsco sell thousands of plastic mouldings to unsuspecting boaters - in the USA its called ' consumerism ' , an engineer would call it a p-ss poor design !!

The screw threads on the top cover of the manual bog are made out of cheese, as near as I can make out. At least, they have the structural integrity of cheese. I have lost count of how many cylinders I have replaced when a thread stripped after a routine service.

Just had a look on Westmarine website at customer reactions to Jabsco's Electric Toilet Conversion , how to they still sell them at that price !! ?? Wished I'd seen it before I parted with nearly £ 300 !! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
Thanks for your comments - cheese consistency is a very apt description of the material Jabsco use

My sealine came with a manual toilet so i though this would be the job, forget it after 2 months packed in on a weekend trip , first time fuses say ok no big deal , then macerater, bigger problem , so if you want to stick with it keep the manual one on board for a quick switch back , i think you will need it! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I got one for SWMBO after 30 years of happily pumping away. Wish I hadnt bothered... it works OK, but only used it a few times for No 2's as we are mainly marina based... the noise is HORRENDOUS!!!! We tend not to use it at night.

COMPLETE WASTE OF *&^%$£G MONEY

Read lots of stuff suggesting it was a bad buy, after I'd bought it.

Considered a new quiet flush thing, but bet my bottom dollar that the existing pipework wouldnt be right.

All the screws for the Jabsco are double threaded. Its very easy to cross thread them unless you work them back in by hand and if you get any resistance withdraw the screw and rotate it before screwing in again. With extreme care you can get them back without damage to the plastic. Why Jabsco do this I have no idea; anyone understand the need for this type of screw. As for electric toilets, pumping out is about the most energetic thing the crew do when on board. seems a shame to deprive them of the exercise.

Fingers crossed and I hope I don't regret this, but touch wood I converted from Manual to Electric 8 months ago and apart from it being noisy it's very good and very effective.

I did wire a seperate supply and earth and ensure no voltage drop is present, this is a must as the load is draws is very high.

It is so much easier than the manual and I use it often in the marina and it's been tested under load and performs very well.

Any complaints only the noise.

Take your point on the noise , one weekend while marina based due to the weather we had a complaint from the staff , due to the noise of the bloodly thing they though we had been emptying the holding tank in the marina, swmbo then got the idea her private moments where being monitored by all , it maybe was fortunate that it backed in a week later. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

We had two electric heads, AFT one was the expensive type, the other forward a less expensive Jabsco which had similar problems (ie the model with the twist rotary control), so I dumped it and fitted an manual hand pump. The AFT one has always worked fine (single rocker switch model). Never liked the idea of all electric heads anyway, prefer the backup of one head under my own control. Now an electric head with a manual hand operated override would suffice.
