I've decided to have a go at refurbishing the seized motors on two Jabsco Electric Conversion kits. The same part has failed on both, the lower bearing. I will be replacing it with a stainless steel bearing with rubber cover plates, but I guess the real answer is to keep water out more effectively.

I've dismantled the units, having to drill out one of the motor screws because the slot in the head got mangled (I've got some Allen bolts to replace them).

I've got the motors apart, to discover that each had a pair of plastic shims and a wavy metal washer next to the top bearing, by the brushes (I think, as they fell out).

Anyone know for sure, and what order these go in?

The bearings are the same size as on skateboards. I've bought new 608ZZ bearings (the originals were marked 608Z), and some 608 2RS stainless bearings, some O-rings to replace the top and bottom rubber gaskets, and a bearing puller as I can't find mine!

The Hartley yacht we bought in NZ last December has an electric heads-a TMC, made in Taiwan.

The motor was siezed solid and the pump end was badly corroded-not a pleasant job!-it had been left wet for a couple of years.

The motor was a simple two brush job, the macerator and two impellors were separated by a sintered bronze bush and lip seals.

Burnsco, the local chandler had ALL the bits in stock that I needed to repair it, at what I considered modest cost.

Works great now, albeit a little noisy and a bit expensive on the Amps-we dont have a big battery bank.

First experience of owning a boat with an electric heads-so far so good!

I can't believe I'm the only one who has had a problem with these.

I had the same issue with a Jabsco pump. The bearings were steel, rusted solid. I got the number, same as yours, sourced them as sealed stainless steel. Took all of ten minutes to change them. The only issue was drilling a big hole in the plastic shield to get the allan key in to undo the grub screw.

Grub screw?

The issue I had was that the long screws holding the case together had seized, and had PoziDriv or Phillips heads which soon got damaged. I replaced them with stainless steel screws, with Allen cap heads.
