Hi all,
I thought i'd share a little info and possibly get some shared feedback from people who may have alternative tips n tricks..
I've two Jabsco 'Designer' electric toilets on my boat (fitted prior to my ownership) and from an operational point of view they are quite nice. They look good and the controls are pretty simple. One button to flush n fill or you can manually 'flush' and 'fill' at leisure. The china all enclosed unit looks quite nice and the seat is pretty decent.
However, maintenance... Notably the joker valve. On any 'exposed' toilet, I think even being careful and with restricted access I could probably change a joker valve in 30 mins. On Jabsco's 'designer' toilet, about 4 -5 hours!!!! You have to remove the entire unit from its location and the outlet elbow is tucked up in the china casting. On the day heads I had to remove the toilet floor fixings, the fill and outlet hoses, and even separate the china casting from the base unit, to get good enough access to the elbow screws.. Then to refit the base to the casting with 4 pathetic little fixings and the china casting being so rough that two fasteners couldn't sit flat in their locations at all.. All in all a dog's dinner!
I'm becoming a little 'Jabsco jaded' as my main macerator pump blew itself in half due to corroded studs and now a 'heads' that's great so long as you don't need to do any maintenance.. For what I think must be a good 800 quid toilet, omitting a simple access panel to a regular service item (joker valve) is inexcusable in my book.
That's my thoughts..
