I have now removed my shrouds. (You may remember my previous enquiry about how they were attached inside the mast.) It turns out that they simply have loops on the end that fit around a ss bar that bolts through, once I removed the screws and small end plates the bar could be pushed through. That question was specific to the Jaguar, this might be something other people can answer.
The loops on the ends of the shrouds had simply been made using thimbles and talurit style copper crimps. Do people think this is the original way it was done or has it been done to make cheap rigging? (A similar unsightly arrangement connects the lower ends to the bottle screws) I will definitely be tidying up the bottom ends with simple threaded terminals swaged directly to the new wire. The question is this, should I replace the top ends? This seems the appropriate terminal to me, a welded swage eye. Any advice?
