I\'ve seen the light...NOT

Having ordered my very expensive lights the other week, the ones where shades are extra,I received a box on Thursday with one light and shade. There was no retainer for the shade (optional extra?) and the on /off switch was broken.Get in touch with them on Friday morning and get told that they thought I only ordered one and that they have had several with broken switches. When I asked about the lack of a bulb, yeh they're extra as well(no mention of any of this in their catalogue). So they agreed to send me two new lights, one shade and four bulbs to make up for me having to pay for the return of the broken one, and they will be with me on Monday.Phoned up this morning,"glad you phoned as we've lost your credit card details".They could'nt find my phone number either.
For gods sake I only want two lights to put on my wall. Why is it this way with marine suppliers.
Sorry for the rant.
Al.

Remember when ordering certain British-made cars in the 70's/80's when you had to specify 1st, 2nd AND 3rd choice of colours as clearly they had no idea what they would actually send to the dealer!!!!

Clearly some of this approach is still alive and well.....

the dealer got 5 white ones. Bought a metallic green Humber instead.
Gets you right ....there, dun'it.

Thankfully these only come in two colours, and they are going to check the switches.

Some car dealership comparisons have been used here - and that's relevent. Its relevent because in the 70's, buying a car was fraught with all sorts of pitfalls - a sort of "caveat emptor" approach. To be fair, modern car dealers now adopt quite the opposite approach and are, in the vast majority, honest.

Today's dealings in the marine world hark back to those days in the 70's and it really is "buyer beware"! - But the stakes can be much higher!

Will it ever evolve??

Nope, not as long as people like me keep buying from them.Shan't use em again, but thats the trouble,by the time you find out its too late. You then go to the next supplier and try them, and on it goes. Now where's the tilley lamp.
