I\'ve made a huge mistake

I took my Wife to the SBS & got her a tour on the Oyster 62. Now she says my 20 odd year old 26 footer is too small & uncomfotable.

Any suggestions as to how I can turn this round.

Tell her to pay for it, and pay all the associated costs for a year. That'll soon shut her up!

Tell her you will need to fit it out in the back garden and will probably take some time. She will also need to trade in the Disco for an Artic on which to transport it. Should do the trick.

Let her try jumping off the Oyster on to a pontoon and holding her along side when the wind's blowing her off. Price up a crane out, antifoul and if she's still up for it ring a few marinas for berthing fees! If she's still up for it you're a very lucky guy.

i agree. Use the "tcm boat-buying gambit" (search for this) to flush out the fact that in fact, she is loaded. or her Dad is anyway. SWMBO's never winge for the unattainable - that's a bloke thing. They winge for attainable things like clothes etc. so the fact that she wants this boat measn she secretly definitely has the loot so may as well put down a deposit.

I t wouldnt last - despite SWMBO paying for neither the purchase or the running costs of the Trintella, she announced (forcefully and at high volume) last year that she was 'tired of camping in a f***ing squalid slum'.

Sometimes, it doesnt matter what is avaialble - it isnt enough to satisfy demand...

Let me know when you're going to buy the Oyster, my wife has decalred that she wants her own yacht - about the 26 foot mark, preferably a CO26. What yacht do you currently have, I might be able to convince her if there is a likelyhood of a quick and broker free sale? /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Jeff.

BTW, I'm always up for a delivery passage in a new Oyster.

Rumour has it...

...that a significant number of new Oysters return to whence they were born (i.e. Foxes Boatyard, Ipswich) before the delivery voyage is completed.

Reason? If one is buying an Oyster, naturally one specs it with the latest, greatest, integrated electronics. Before that maiden voyage, the skipper points and clicks the chartplotter cursor on his waypoints - usually lots of the East Coast's assorted bouys, beacons and lightships.

The whole shooting match sets sail down the river, with everybody crowded in the cockpit oohing and aahing at how clever the interfaced autopilot is. Then as Felixstowe falls astern the excitement and wonder begin to fade and they troop off below to test the interior sprung mattresses and the integrated microwave/toaster/beer cooler, leaving a lad up top 'on watch'. The autopilot steers faithfully on, from waypoint to waypoint. After spending the first 30 minutes of his watch conscientiously scanning the horizon, the lad slowly drifts into a reverie involving magical acne cream, Oakley sungalsses, sun-darkened maidens and Bounty Bars.

Everything suddenly comes to a grinding halt, courtesy of the autopilot, differential WAAS-enabled GPS and the Galloper, or Sunk, or some close relation. Boat is 180'd back to whence she came for the red or green paint to be scraped off the topsides and the gouges in the gell coat to be repaired. Meanwhile a letter of apology and a cheque is winging its way to Trinty House.

... you're joking!!!

I saw Quicksilver at Berthons yesterday, and in my view, if she is serious about what she says, she has condemned about 99% of anything floating...

Ah!

In that case Sue is being very optimistic about the future! I do hope they had Quicksilver looking smart - it was quite an endeavour organising one set of babysitters for the chilkdren, and another set for SWMBO - and then getting the boat over to Berthons.

Although she is cleaned, washed and polished every week, a boat still needs to be used, and that hasnt happened. Mind you - the only thing that failed was a deck organizer that ripped off in a squall (I didnt think it was THAT windy), which wasnt a maintenance related issue.

I asked her & she said "He sounds extremely attractive. When can we meet?

Do you think my marriage is doomed?

This installation might help as there wouldn't be any room for us to get on. I suspect this may suit SWMBO.

Touble is that it's too big for my garden. Especially with all the other junk stored there. It looks like Steptoe's Yard now.
