Im sure theres probably a ban on pointing out ebay items, but this is more of a 'what do you think' as opposed to a 'buy my item' post...

well.. what do you think!?

Its certainly not uncomfortable to use, but the beauty of it is that it can easily be taped to any flat surface and hopefully left there forever.. Any improvements you can think of? Please discuss!

Im hoping to get them to £14 per pair, and doubled up with the fact that they take up no room at all, im hoping thatll do it?

Also, the postage cost wont really increase that much if you pack several together.

My biggest hope is for the life rafts market, as you can easily store 100 of them in something the size of a small suitcase.

Never mind the paddle..................

..............What's that dodgy looking car??/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Spray them a super bright retroflective colour or put 3M diamond tape on them or a polished section, so they can be used as signalling / recognition devices (like semaphore flags)

You could screen print semaphore characters or morse code on the ones for liferaft use.

They look neat and very functional. I've seen similar ones in PBO years ago, though. Niche Marketing will be the key to your deserved success.

Great, but they are a 2 man device which is fine for emergencies with a few on board, but what about single handed on a normal tender?

Tenders are quite wide and I couldn't paddle mine with 2 of these unless I lay in the bow and butterflied

Could you add a socket to each so you could insert a short extension when on your own? A couple of broom handles would do

Nicely constructed, good luck with it

Beware of putting any 'patent pending' products out there for all and sundry... you never know /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I was once told, at work this is, that any idea I had would belong to the company because the idea came from something at work whilst I was at work... intellectual property or something? Anyway, it may be the case that any brilliant ideas people come along with and post on here, YBW could have a claim to, not saying they would, but could. Funny stuff, all this legal jargon, but thats as I understand it. Anybody concur with that?

Good luck with the project though.

Looking at the pic posted above, so obviously not the first idea, what part are you actually patenting - the technology, the design, or the concept? Ooohhh, I've been watching Dragon's Den too much /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

They are pretty difficult to use as you have to lean over the side to use them. Imagine only having the blade of your oar and needing to hold it half way down.

Incidentally, it is possible to paddle on one side if you use the Canadian Canoe J-stroke, this is a long straight stroke with a steering twist at the end (like a letter J) to counteract the turning effect of paddling on one side only.

Yes what you say is correct.

I am the named inventor on more than one patent. (Rf aerial coupling)

But as I worked for a large electronic company at the time I was told that this was part of my job and I was paid to do that sort of thing, so I got nothing for the patents.

As a direct result of my patents I managed to bring in several milion pounds of extra work to the company. For that I was given an ex gratia payment of £400.

Then a few years later I was made redundant as the company decided to move out of defence electronics.

Cheers
Iain
