Re: Pardon?

Yes that's the correct figures dunno about the percentage I haven't got a calculater, can't spell it either! It's insured directly with Navigators & General no broker.

Re: Pardon?

Seems good value to me - we're paying just over 1% as a premium, though the resultant figure is far less than yours. Did use to think that we doing OK on insurance - not so sure now...

On £10k I pay around 2.25%, in general you seem to pay a lower percentage the more you insure.

Mirelle we need you !!! ???

I think Yoda's post is probably correct in terms of the bigger the insured sum the lower the %... I wonder what a super tanker pays? Perhaps Mirelle if he is about could answer

Re: I\'ve been ordered to say sorry by swmbo

yes, I pay about 1.5% on 28000 insured, but my policy comes with tons of conditions to the point that I would not be able to do any work on her myself. I have had numerous arguments with the company which then go on to the underwriter N&G who say it's ok.

My favourite was after the survey, which stated the vessel is undergoing a full rewire. Oh no says miss insurance clerk, you must have it checked by an electrical fitter. So says I, I have to get someone on board with 10% of the training that I have had to check my work, would you like to see my CV.

10 mins later phone call says it is ok, they will trust me. They are still fighting me to have a gas survey though, I have done all the work, just can't get anyone with a corgi (including HRH) to come on board and check it over.

Re: Mirelle we need you !!! ???

Thinking about it, I guess that for smaller boats the cost of the third party insurance starts to overwhelm the cost of insuring the boat. If your boat is worth £250k or just £2.5k, you still need £2m third party insurance (if I remember that rightly), so this is a fixed portion of your premium.

Insurance

0.51% on £51K - including UK, france/spain/portugal and W med - singlehanding and £3 million 3rd party.
Also with Navigators & General but thro' a broker.

That was last year - I wait to see this year not due for another 10 weeks.

Re: Say again

That's an amazing figure Aelous - just got my renewal (liveaboard, Baltic + Channel, £60,000 valuation on 40 foot ketch) at £520. Who;s your insurer?

Re: Say again

Not sure if you mean its good or bad, we are insured with Bishop Skinner - the boat is insured for £30k, and we paid just over £300 last year- we've added racing risks to the policy this year, but off setting this is a discount for passing YM exam, so these will cancel each other out (a bit). Documents are on the boat so I can't give exact figures. It look as though you are doing better percentage wise than we are.

Regards, Jeff.
