'My little picture' of <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.arts-studio.com/shopinfo/uploads/962810354_large-image_as.jpg> Two Friends </A> has given offence to THE MANAGEMENT and I've been requested to change it, because a thread (Now Pulled) <font color=red>Nigel B Naked</font color=red> was posted on <font color=green>Practical Boat Owner's Reader to Reader</font color=green>.
I replied to the post pointing out that 'My little picture' was not of me but a painting by Tamara de Lempicka
I then said that I was more like <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.stone-circles.org.uk/stone/images/cerne1.jpg> THIS </A> in my youth.
This must have aroused a dormant purity in some people, and as you may know, any form of arousal can make the blood pulsate hard in the veins. It all came to a head and apparently complaints were made.

Even the Nazi's only censored BOOKS by flames, I think their method of censoring ART was to collect it all up and take it home.

Have I exceeded the bounds of decency and propriety?

Nigel, I don't oftem take offence, however I must say that the picture you displayed on the censored thread AND the one you show on your latest posting does display a very poor sense of taste on your part.












I mean, what a ghastly shade of green. Reminds me of pea soup !

How could that ever cause offence, it was so small and all the rude bits were covered. You see more on the beaches in summer and on TV or page threes. Next we will be covering table legs just in case it arouses someone. And as for all those masts and spars, just excuses for phalic symbols. Your taste may be in question but each to his own. What a dull world it would be if we were all clones and thought alike. STILL I GUESS ALL THIS ELECTRONIC STUFF MEANS THAT BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING. You control the media and you control the people. Some people must control and control the fun and games as well. I feel that the controller is far too sensitive, and must doubt his/her moral values as well. You have my sympathy.

Surely that picture can't have been the cause of your being censored. It was totally innocuous. There must be some very sad people out they were upset by it.
Actually, never having been an allegedly naughty boy myself, how does being censored manifest itself ? Do handcuffs appear on your screen or what? In fact can I try it please?

Seriously though I suspect that Mr (You know!...thingey) may have second thoughts on his decision to censor. Consistency is always the problem when amateurs set themselves up as judges!

The main complaint from THE MANAGEMENT was that it was posted on PBO R to R. If you have not yet recieved a PM, please take this as your first and last warning that only Boaty, and preferably Technical things should be posted on the PBO R to R forum.

See - now even Steffen has become a censor of sorts! - Steffen - the Armadillo comment is one lifted from a budweiser advert - so it isn't personal. How could it be and anyway - how could a supposed Armadillo possibly breed such a Kind, generous, good looking, witty, intelligent, perceptive, fair and magnaminous editor such as our dear Kim?

In an age when most of us lack the courage to speak our minds against what is fashionably public in any locale, even a forum,there will be a silent majority who feel that Kim Hollamby should be congratulated on the tolerant, diplomatic way in which he controls what can be difficult forums. He has a very delicate balancing act to perform.

Both in personal email and on a boating site which I manage, I receive many grumbles when I mention R-to-R. The complainants are not morally offended by what many of them regard as puerile, sexual innuendo of the “snigger, snigger” level, which many of them abandoned post Form Three. They simply get bored with having to burn telephone line time by being forced to wade through it all to get to what they came to the forum expecting to find. Boats etc.

One guy, who used to contribute a lot of sense to the forum, objects to the way in which a handful of people monopolise it as a sort of personal private chat room of non boating chit chat of little interest to everybody else. I agree his idea that they should use PMs more, or transfer to somewhere like AOL, where there are some excellent chat rooms especially for this sort of private, immediate conversation. It is an error to assume that what you find funny will amuse everybody else.

Another sailer, whose experience and views I admire, will no longer contribute because he is afraid to use such words as ‘erect, big, enter,rear,floppy, breast etc’ without being at risk of ridicule comment. It has happened.

It is interesting to note that we could have forecast who would object to Kim’s commendable control and are not surprised at the familiar wording which they have used to do it and that they have even assumed that the only reason for deleting a posting has to be sexual, rather than to do the greatest good for the greatest number.

Qui s’excuse: s’accuse.

I accept that nobody is forced to come to this forum. The choice is ours. Fortunately there are some whose enthusiasm for boats and sailing overrides their boredom with puerility so, on behalf of this majority, “ Season’s greetings to you Kim and thanks for the job you are doing in all its aspects.”
