Why can I not get ITV3 on freeview even though it is listed in TV guides as channel 34 freeview ?
Thanks - Ian

I notice you're on Windermere. What's the mood up there now the speed restrictions have come in? Is it going to be rather quiet (except for raggies) next summer?

Not too sure yet to be honest. A few people I know are going to N. Wales or Scotland. The majority of us seem to be sticking it out until we see what happens after April when the restriction comes in. I think we will see a big change for the 06 season when we have all tried it for a year and then make a decision to go somewere else. A real shame that it came to this cos in the summer it really is a lovely place to be. Personally I would like to stay for a few years more (as it is an easy 1hr drive from home) until such time that Business and family commitments allow me to berth in S. of France or Spain.

no coverage ?

The channels are transmitted via different aerial sites and one suspects and you may well be out of range of that Tx aerial. Most digital convertors have some sort of signal strength gubbbins inbuilt which will indicate the amount of signal available for that ITV3 station you are trying to get. This will be a % type display or a colour band indicating good bad or no chance mate for each signal in your area.you could try moving your antenna but this may mean you lose the stations you can get now.
Also a proper 400mhz aerial could help.
Down here the improvement in our Ch5 signal was dramatic along with loads of free junk TV including The X channel.

It's all very complicated and desparately boring, so here goes.

The signals are sent from different main channels called MUXes (Multiplexers), Each Mux hosts a number of watchable channels.
For each location some MUXs have different transmission characteristics - probably to avoid co-channel interference with existing analogue channels and this may not improve until analogue is switched off, so a very long wait.
In general if you can get DTV at all it is usualy the main channels that you can receive.

To find out what you are likely to get goto to the DTG website ,and enter your post code. You'll get a more detailed description than the Freeview site which says "No" if you can't get ALL the channels.

The DTG is not gospel, thought it says I can't get ITV1, C4, C5 - but we can crystal clear.

SO that's why you may not be able to get ITV3 and other channels.

Sorted.
Started messing about with it again last night and inadvertantly did something that lost all stored chanels. Oh bollox I thought. Had to unplug it and start all over again but once it did its download of available chanels thingy hey presto ITV3.

Beat you

We have satellite, because our terrestrial reception is lousy, due to a socking great hill standing between Chateau jhr and the transmitter on the IOW.

Consequently, we have a choice of several hundred channels of cack. /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif
