Monday, I left Howth to move around to Poolbeg and passed Bailey Lighthouse. Lets say the wind was a little stronger than we thought it was going to be.....:o Forcast was for 12knts it was actually around 28knts.

One of my Irish friends took several photos of Little Ship head butting the waves. I was hanging on inside whilst these photos were taken, he however was in a 27' westerly tiller steering and still managed to take the photos.... hardy buggers these sailors :)

No damage incurred but these are not the conditions I like to be out in, especially in a Mobo.

Looks lumpy Tom.

Normally you can't make a trawler yacht like LS go too fast, no matter what you do to the throttle ;)......accept in that ****py wind against tide when even the mighty Lehman has to be pulled back so the boat doesn't land heavy in the deep trough in front.

It's nice to have photograph evidence of the ol' girl doing battle! :D

Richard

What is the definition of a Mobo then.........

Actually she is a Grand Banks 32 Woodie :)

As to looking fine ... I do hope you mean the boat and not the sea conditions :o trust me it was worse than it looks on the photos.

Tom

Both! I think she looks right at home! as for the owner.....I bet you had a drink when you got to the berth!

Lovely pics, I agree with RS that she looks comfy even in those conditions!
...though I can see why you would have preferred a smoother cruise of course...
Did your friend take any pic also while going downhill?
They would be even more interesting, in order to understand the boat behaviour.

These photos were taken from a 27' Westerly it was video and snaps were taking from that. It's posted on utube here

Not a good video but what can you expect when holding a tiller and trying to take a vid :) The Yacht in the video is a Marlow.

Well, more than good enough to understand that LS rode those waves beautifully, and with no evident rolling.
True to her name, I would say! :)

I liked the next video, called; Classic! Cruising club Port Dinorwic ;)

Looked like you folks were having a really good time there Tom, although you might need to work on your harmonies a bit :D

Thankfully those seats/benches have now perished along with the dulcet tones of said 'Concert'

It looks as tho you aretrying to get her up on the plane, Tom.

I had some of that off S & N Stacks last week, when I missed the tide. The engine doing 3,900 revs, on a beam reach under full sail, creaming down the fronts of the waves surfing, & still only going 0.5-1.5 kts over the ground.

Following day, I got my timing right & was doing 10kts over the ground, sails all furled & engine ticking over at 1,800 revs. Aren't tides wonderful things? I bet your trip turned out to be a doddle once the tide turned. Have you ever considered doing a bit of passage planning? :D
