It\'s Hell in the S.West

All the forecasts today were for N.E'lies 5 up to 7 and possibly veering Easterly along with a moderate and perhaps rough seastate. Coupled with this there was to be scattered wintry showers.

Well, I thought I'd give it a whirl so left K'bridge on the ebb at 0745, arrived Plymouth (QAB) 0915 - seastate barely slight and sunshine all the way. Went shopping, had a coffee at RWYC at the invitation of their Rear Commodore (Sailing) - friendly place it would seem and they have started an active motorboat section.
Entered the Yealm at LW, moored up at vis. pontoon, had a snack and a kip. Then went to mouth of R.Avon and anchored off Bigbury - had another snack. Saw a yacht en route.
As the seastate was such that I could travel at 20knts +, except at Bolt Hd - down to 16 /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif - I was rather in front of myself so picked up a mooring up Southpool Creek. Had another snack and a snooze whilst waiting for the tide up to Kingsbridge, where on my arrival it tried to snow.
Do I qualify for an award for successfully completing said solo voyage in such horrendous Winter conditions ? I didn't turn the heating up past "low" honest.
Oh, and Gludy, I have to admit, making a cup of T en route would have been difficult.

So wheres the RWYC ?? I want to go. Is it open all week. Is it cheap? Can I go by dinghy, Or Mf?? Have you tried using a whistling kettle in stead of a sauce pan? We will be down Saturday if you shift the snow!!

RWYC is at QAB Marina. It is on the First floor above the Sea Chest bookshop - entrance is on the ground floor in the corridor that goes through the main building out towards the slipway area. Don't know what the opening hours are nor the cost - was a guest see /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
It's a fair old row in the dinghy - suspect you are not fit enough, to get back in any case. Suppose you could , during operating hours, get the ferry from Mountbatten to the Barbican and then walk round. Anyway, I don't think you'd be allowed in as you live on the wrong side of the cut.

I thought I'd do all my boating this week 'cos you always bring lousy weather from oop norf.
Didn't dare use a whistling kettle in case it was taken as being a distress signal. With my lack of a voice I have to carry a whistle in case of emergencies. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Well it would make a pleasant change from the snotty nosed cafe downstairs.

Was thinking of useing outboard and auto pilot for the trip back.
